Hry inks pact with Raj to share Yamuna water

Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana, two neighboring states, signed an agreement with Rajasthan on Saturday to share excess water from its Hathnikund barrage, especially during rainy days, at a time when the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal is threatening their prestige. At a specially organized event that was presided over by Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at his office in Delhi, officials from both states signed the agreement in the presence of Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Rajasthan counterpart Bhajanlal Sharma. Khattar expressed that during the storm season, a lot of water moving through the Yamuna stream gets squandered as it purges into the ocean. Both states have pledged to create a comprehensive strategy by writing a detailed project report because they are aware of the need for sustainable flood control and water management. An official spokesperson stated that under the terms of this MoU, Rajasthan will also receive the excess water utilized in water-deficient areas of Haryana. This water can be utilized in the space of Haryana’s line regions of Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and Hisar.
